Bring it on!

I have been fortunate enough to have my husband home from work for the 3 weeks following Jake's birth. So to this point we have been working together to take care of the kiddos. The end of this week will mark Jeff's return to work. Which means more chaotic days for me when he is gone. I've been so busy just making it through each day that I have not really had much time to think about the change that is coming at the end of this week for me. At 6:30 this morning Jeff received a call that offered him to work some overtime today. Who can pass up extra money? Especially so close to the holidays. So out the door he went a few days earlier than planned. And there I was, all alone, to fill the shoes of mom and dad and feeling unsure if I was capable of pulling through for my two kiddos after yet another night of NO sleep. Would I manage to shower and dress, prepare all the days meals and snacks, take care of Jake's diapers and feedings, coordinate quality play time with Aubrey, etc... and be able to feed myself and go to the bathroom too. Yes, oh yes, there were hectic moments of dirty diapers, hungry tummies, cries for attention and my full bladder aching. But I have managed to meet every one's needs so far, including my own. There were times when I just had to stop and laugh through the stress. This day has given me a greater appreciation for all that my amazing husband does while home with me and the kiddos. But more than anything else, this first day on my own has given me the confidence to know I too can be an amazing, loving, multi-tasking mom with a little bit of patience and humor. Bring it on!

You can do it! You can- really. I'm glad you remember to pee. Life gets depressing when we can't go pee. It's the least we can do for our tired mommy selves.

I'm so glad that you found me! Your babies are adorable. And you're getting showers already?? Geez, I remember that's how I defined a productive day. And the days that I was able to nurse the baby without falling asleep and being woken up to the sound of something being broken by another child (or two children, or three, four...) And when I could go through a complete hour without losing it. Or a week without crying in a public place ;) Everytime we had a new one I would remember how much of the newborn days I had forgotten. Okay, I probably just blocked them out - too traumatic. You can do it. One moment at a time.

Leslie...so funny you should write this because being almost 6 months pregnant with our 2nd, a boy and having a girl...I have thought these same questions esp. this morning as I am trying to shower quickly before our girl wakes up...and I don't even have 2 yet...wow...wonder woman you are! You'll have to keep this up so I can see how much life changes with the 2nd! :)
